Each episode’s winner earns a modest rupees one lakh, while those manage to get to the red seat (where sits the Bollywood Ka Boss) pocket Rs 10,000 for each query, correctly answered. Every episode will send two semi-finalists who will all compete in the end for the final jackpot of Rs 50 lakh.

But the icing on the cake is undoubtedly host Boman Irani. Here comes a host, who not only sports his fan like attachment to Bollywood with élan, but also uses it to create some genuine moments of celebration, never mind the kitsch. So if you have him popping forth as a bridegroom in one episode, a character he rues he will never get to play in the films that always limit him to dad portrayals, in another, there’s a mellowed down Irani singing a patriotic song to ample tug effect. He endears and entertains like a performer, apart from the liberal jadu ki jhappis doled out to exiting participants.

However, the only thing that beats me at the moment is the quiz’s over reliance on recent Bollywood in a show that aims to celebrate the whole gamut from the classic to the contemporary with most of the questions limited to post 2000 releases only. Hopefully, as the levels toughen so will the depth of knowledge quotient on test. But then as they say, there’s no middle path in quizzing – if you know the answer, its easy, if you don’t then its tough.

If you thought that you had seen all the ‘Filmy’ stuff that the TV has to offer, you are in for a big surprise. The new reality show ‘Bollywood ka Boss’, launched by the channel Filmy, promises to be the boss of all ‘FILMY Battles’.

Bollywood Ka Boss is being launched on Sahara ‘FILMY’  channel from the 6th January, 2008 and will be telecast every Sunday, from 9 pm onwards. The show will revolve completely around movie buffs, who will get a chance to win loads of money.

The reality show will start with 10 Bollywood enthusiasts, who will compete with each other in a 33-week long battle and try to outdo the other through their filmy gyaan. At the end of the 33 weeks, one amongst the participants will be declared the winner and will get the title of ‘Filmiyon ka Filmy’!

The 50 lakh rupees that will be given to him/her as the prize money and you know why the show is bound to be popular.After Big B, Shahrukh, Govinda and Anupam Kher it’s our comedy king Boman Irani, who is all set to become an anchor of a game show; the actor will be seen testing the Bollywood IQ of the contestants on the show. the man who can make you laugh at the silliest of jokes.

KBC Producer Siddharth Basu is producing this show for Sahara Filmy. Siddhartha Basu, the father of television quizzing in India with shows like KBC and Mastermind India to his credit, the show is definitely going to be one of the biggest entertainers of 2008.

Boman was shooting for the promo capsule of the yet-to-be-launched show ‘Bollywood ka Boss Kaun’ (FILMY) at Mukesh Mills in Colaba amidst a lot of fireballs when one of the gas cylinders began leaking and caused a major fire.

According to Ashish Kapoor, creative head, FILMY,  “The sequence involved mini petrol blasts. There were several gas cylinders and canisters that threw flames. One of the cylinders was leaking and some mix-up happened causing a fire.”

The artistes started running helter-skelter till the situation was brought under control. Since it was being shot outdoors, the artistes could save themselves and losses were minimum. However, when the troupe got together to re-shoot the capsule, they seemed to be so perturbed by the blast, that the creative team had a tough time making the artistes get their expressions right.

Who says watching movies doesn’t pay? Hindi cinema buffs could win up to Rs 50 lakh as prize money on “Bollywood Ka Boss”, the country’s first film-based quiz show.

Popular actor and comedian Boman Irani will anchor the show, scheduled to go on air by December-end on Filmy, Sahara One’s movie channel.

After launching the music-based reality show Bathroom Singer, Sahara’s movie channel Filmy has announced a quiz format programme based on Hindi films. Bollywood Ka Boss is a weekly prime time one hour show which will go on air in December. Actor Boman Irani will play anchor and quiz master for the show.

Bollywood Ka Boss will pitch contestants against each other for a prize money of Rs 5 million.

Though Filmy has not decided the time-slot and day when the show will air, it is expected to replace Bathroom Singer whose first season ends in December.

Filmy business head Shailesh Kapoor said, “Ever since our inception we have strived to give our viewers a good mix of programmes and movies. This show is a first of its kind on TV and entire concept of the show fits in well with the image of our channel.”

The channel has thrown open the entries for selection process. People can qualify for subsequent rounds by answering nine questions on SMS to BKB and send it to 59090 between 12 September to 7 October.

The highest scorers will undergo a written test which will be conducted in multiple languages across several cities. 240 contestants will be selected for the TV rounds which will be a six month phenomenon.

“The whole idea of conducting the tests in multiple languages is to keep the selection unbiased and open to everybody,” added Kapoor.

Said Synergy Adlabs chairman and MD Siddhartha Basu who is producing the show, “Bollywood Ka Boss will cater to the movie crazy country where there is such a massive fascination and knowledge about all that is filmy.”

A TV program created and produced by Siddhartha Basu’s Synergy Adlabs will be launched by the channel Filmy, where a Bollywood quiz show will be shown to the viewers and the best among the competitors will be awarded with grand prize of Rs. 50 lakhs. The show aims to get a person having first-rate movie knowledge.
